Interview with Reagan Wray
We had the pleasure of getting to know Reagan from Walk This Wray. Reagan is a fellow Razorback and has been involved in the local boutique and modeling arena of Northwest Arkansas for a long time.
Lust Have: What inspired you to start blogging?
Reagan: I have always been very passionate about fashion and writing. Ever since I was a kid I have kept journals highlighting exciting things that have happened in my life. When I turned 18 I was discovered by a local modeling agency that started helping me book more shoots and become more familiar with the photography process. Once I started posting more and more pictures on my social media accounts I started gaining a stronger following. People were encouraging me to post more and give them fashion advice. Before I knew it brands were reaching out to me as well as local photographers wanting to do photoshoots around the area. I knew that my social media accounts just weren’t going to cut it if I wanted to pursue this in a professional manor, thus the birth of Walk This Wray.
LH: In one sentence, how would you describe the purpose of your blog to a potential new follower?
R: The purpose of my blog is to influence and inspire young fashionistas to learn more about the industry as well as promote brands that I know and love.
LH: Who is your number one fashion inspiration and why?
R: Kendall Jenner is currently my fashion inspiration and obsession. I love how daring and influential she has been in the fashion industry in just a short amount of time. She always seems to be creating new and exciting trends, while looking effortless all at the same time.
LH: What are some of your current style obsessions?
R: I am currently still obsessing over fringe. Pretty much every bag I own/wear right now has a little bit of fringe on it. I like how it can spice up an outfit and make it look more bohemian.
LH: What are your predictions for the next big style trend?
R: I think the minimalist style is really going to be huge this spring. Keeping your outfits simple and chic is key. I also think pastels are going fall short this spring, and the trend of monochromatic colors is going to be a hit.
LH: Tell us about a typical day working on your blog.
R: Since I am still in school I try and post at least one big blog post a week focusing really on anything that is on my mind at the moment. Some days I like to right more about fashion trends, other days I like to write more poetic pieces on daily struggles that my readers might be going through.
LH: What changes have you noticed in your life after starting your blog?
R: Since I am an Apparel Merchandise and Product Development at the University of Arkansas I have a lot of people in my major that follow my blog. I have gained a lot more respect from people in my local community that appreciate fashion.
LH: There are always challenges associated with success. Are there any barriers you have encountered that have or are currently preventing you from hitting any blog milestones?
R: Being a full-time student makes it challenging to come up with new content every week. I think once I graduate and can pursue my blog full-time it will help my blog grow into a more legitimate business.
LH: Speaking of which, what is your next big milestone for your digital diary?
R: I am hoping to start promoting new brands as well as taking on marketing ads on my website to help bring in a stronger revenue.
LH: Who is your favorite photographer for your shoots?
R: I have been working with Kristen Grisham for the past few years now, but I have luckily known and been friends with her since middle school. Kristen’s photography is natural and authentic which I think reflects my brand as well. I feel very comfortable with Kristen which makes it easy to pose/shoot with her.
LH: What is the toughest lesson you have learned so far from the world of fashion blogging?
R: Fashion blogging is VERY trendy right now. One thing that I find difficult is coming up with new/unique content that readers of all ages will enjoy. Learning how to differentiate yourself from other fashion bloggers is probably one of the toughest things to do.
LH: As you continue working on your online presence, are there any skills or talents you wish to polish that will help you along the way?
R: I would like to gain more knowledge about grammar/writing. I will be taking a creative writing class next semester that will hopefully give me more insight on how to connect to my readers better.
LH: Any final thoughts or advice for those that would like to follow in your footsteps?
R: Stay true to yourself. I know that sounds cheesy, but writing about your personal style is going to attract readers as well as making you seem more unique. Consistency is key as well. If you are going to have a blog you need to stay on trend and write at least once a week to keep your readers intrigued. I also think having professional images will take your blog to the next level.
