Blog Trendz

Interview with Mukta Kandpal

We were able to sit down and chat with a long time Lust Have user Mukta Kandpal, or Miki. Miki runs an exquisite blog titled Blogtrendz which houses an elegant mix of her styles and tastes. Definitely worth a look!

Lust Have: What inspired you to start blogging?
Mukta: I am passionate about Fashion. Being a former fashion design student I always had that propensity to be up to date with the latest trends. This inspired me to start a personal blog about my style.

LH: In one sentence, how would you describe the purpose of your blog to a potential new follower?
M: My blog is my personal space to share my experiments with latest fashion trends. My style is simple, basic and affordable.

LH: Who is your number one fashion inspiration and why?
M: I have a few favorites like Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner. I also look up Lust Have app for fashion trends.

LH: What are some of your current style obsessions?
M: I am currently obsessed with tie-waist pants, stripes and oversized trench coats. I will be experimenting with khaki and yellow colors this spring.

LH: What are your predictions for the next big style trend?
M: Waist clinchers, Oversized trench coats, Flash dance shoulder and stripes will  be big this spring 2017.

LH: Tell us about a typical day working on your blog.
M: I blog part time at the moment as being a mom takes the first priority in my life. My blog day starts with planning my outfits. The weather and lighting play an important role in the blog photography so I typically prefer early evenings for the shoot. The post processing of the pictures takes a while too. Social media sharing and commenting comes later. My website Blogtrendz gets the post update in 3-4 days depending on my schedule.

LH: What changes have you noticed in your life after starting your blog?
M: Blogging has helped me channelize my fashion creativity into reality so it has been a positive influence on my life. Having spent more than 12 years in the aviation industry i have seen the glamour industry closely. I therefore don't feel any pressure to be pushed into this competitive glamour race. I don't see much changes in my life after starting my blog.

LH: Who is your favorite photographer for your shoots?
M: My favorite and only photographer is my dear hubby who is incredibly talented. You can follow me on instagram for my latest updates.

LH: What is your next big milestone for your digital diary?
M: I want to increase the reach of my blog. I feel that fashion is empowering. I look forward to collaborate with like minded brands and fashionistas.

LH: What is the toughest lesson you have learned so far from the world of fashion blogging?
M: Fashion blogging is like any other profession. It requires a lot of hard work and determination. Its a full time indulgence. Its  not easy to get an audience for your blog nonetheless being persistent pays off, like they say "Stay calm and blog on "

Angelica LXW

Interview with Angelica Lee

Today we were able to learn more from lifestyle and travel blogger, Angelica. Although Angelica runs her blog  AngelicaLXW, you can find most of her updates on her carefully cultivated Instagram  @angelicalxw

Lust Have: What inspired you to start documenting your lifestyle and travels?
Angelica: I have always been someone who kept a record of things I did and the places I went, but I guess the fact that being able to put all of this onto one platform was the initial drawing point. Reading posts from others' experience really helped me plan my travels and so I figured that I too could share some helpful tips with others.

LH: In one sentence, how would you describe the purpose of your blog to a potential new follower?
A: Budget to mid-range travel and lifestyle

LH: Who is your number one fashion inspiration and why?
A: Imjennim. I love how she can pull off various kinds of style from the feminine girl to a tomboy look. I especially love how she uses minimal and natural makeup looks, letting the outfit speak for itself.

LH: What are some of your current style obsessions?
A: Bell sleeves and cold shoulders tops! There's something so sweet  and effortless about the look.

LH: What are your predictions for the next big style trend?
A: I think this goes more towards hairstyle than clothing, but I think mid-length hair is making its way back into trends now.

LH: Tell us about a typical day working on your feed.
A: Blog wise, this goes from writing the content, editing the photos and re-arranging the layout of the post. As for my instagram, a few images are chosen, edited, and the best fit for the next post is posted.

LH: What changes have you noticed in your life after starting your lifestyle feed?
A: The engagement rate with my followers have increased and I've got to interact with people from all over the world, sharing some helpful tips about lifestyle and travels through the Direct Message feature in Instagram.

LH: There are always challenges associated with success. Are there any barriers you have encountered that have or are currently preventing you from hitting any milestones?
A: Yes, people don't really know this but blogging really takes up a lot of your time and as I am currently working on my final major project for my degree, unfortunately I do not have the time to dedicate this to blogging and thus, have put a hold on this and worked through my Instagram instead.

LH: Speaking of which, what is your next big milestone for your digital diary?
A: I'm currently aiming to expand my Instagram presence, so hitting 2K or more followers would be my next goal.

LH: Who is your favorite photographer for your shoots?
A: My fellow blogger. She too is on the same journey as I am and we kinda both know each other's likes and dislikes when it comes to our photography.

LH: What is the toughest lesson you have learned so far from the world of fashion blogging?
A: Never give up and if it's something you're passionate about, go for it. I was in great doubt before I started but I knew that above all else, I am doing this simply because I enjoy it and it doesn't matter if nobody else thinks it's a great idea. I would say that it's easy to get lost in the numbers and feel pressured to achieve a certain standard, but I was constantly reminded of the true purpose I'm doing this - the passion.

LH: As you continue working on your online presence, are there any skills or talents you wish to polish that will help you along the way?
A: I feel like there is still lots to learn in many aspects and I'm interested in improving my skills to be able to capture the audience's attention with one look. I guess this has to do with achieving a certain style and layout that is distinct.

LH: Any final thoughts or advice for those that would like to follow in your footsteps?
A: It would definitely start out tough and you may feel like you're not achieving anything within the first few months, but honestly just go for it. It gets better, it really does.

Cashmere Boulevard

Interview with Annelies Martinez

Annelies from Cashmere Boulevard was kind enough to visit with us and share more about her digital publication. She has been working hard on her online message for several years now and has nothing but great things ahead of her.

Lust Have: What inspired you to start blogging?
Annelies: I believe it was more of the environment that I have always been around and the want to express myself. I discovered blogging when I started college in 2010 and felt like I had a lot to say for the voices who were yet to be heard. I didn’t really start blogging until 2015 which felt like perfect timing even though I wished I would have started sooner. My boyfriend was an extremely huge encouragement towards me starting my blogging till this day in still being my photographer and stylist at times.

LH: In one sentence, how would you describe the purpose of your blog to a potential new follower?
A: Fashionably inexpensive and financially smart.

LH: Who is your number one fashion inspiration and why?
A: There can’t never be more than one inspiration lol. For well-known bloggers, between Olivia Culpo and Something Navy (Arielle Charnas) both of whom I have been following for years and seeing/loving their growth.  From up and coming, Farah Pink and my lovely college friend City Laundry, Maria Gonzalez, whom both I have recently been stalking on Instagram. From vacations to just ideas in styles I can in cooperate has have me obsessed. Lastly, my mother. The seamstress with magical hands. I would have never pursued Fashion had it not been for her influence.

LH: What are some of your current style obsessions?
A: Ruffles; Bell bottoms; High wasted; Monochrome; Neutrals; Lace

LH: What are your predictions for the next big style trend?
A:

  1. Lace is super, super big and will continue to be huge for the fall along with knits
  2. Since we are in a minimalistic stage, I believe logos will come back in trend. Starting with the minimalist of Tommy Hilfiger and his navy/white/red flag. I don’t believe it will be to the extent where it was before but more in a smaller logo over different places.
  3. Minimal stripes - I can’t never get enough of it
  4. Homemade - we are entering back to a generation where we alter and revamp our clothing

LH: Tell us about a typical day working on your blog.
A: I would plan a few weeks ahead on outfits or what I would write about. If its about beauty or finance, I would take photos of the product I’m using and talk myself out loud as I type away. I try my best to make myself sound as conversational as possible. If it’s a beauty review, I would log down my pros and cons of the product as I’ve been using it to create content for my blog post. For Finance post, I would always look back to an experience I have had dealing with finance and money or simply always log down tips in my agenda that may have worked for me.

LH: What changes have you noticed in your life after starting your blog?
A: I have seen that I have stepped a bit way from my introverted ways and been more opening in expressing myself and any of my experiences to get where I am at today. It has definitely made me happier to be able to help others through expressing myself in my troublesome moments or moments of exploration.

LH: There are always challenges associated with success. Are there any barriers you have encountered that have or are currently preventing you from hitting any blog milestones?
A: Consistency has been a huge barrier for me as I try to take on a new job along with more responsibilities at home. Sometimes I get too caught up in what I am doing that I forget to post, promote, or prep the new content to post soon.

LH: Speaking of which, what is your next big milestone for your digital diary?
A: I have already converted to an eCommerce site in selling retail products but I have been working on some new goodies along with some exclusives for boutiques which should launch in the fall.

LH: Who is your favorite photographer for your shoots?
A: My boyfriend! He has not only been my rock but also has had a keen eye for my style from the beginning. He knows what I want and always delivers.

LH: What is the toughest lesson you have learned so far from the world of fashion blogging?
A: Stop being lazy and be more consistent. As well as you don’t need to have the most luxury brand to get a follow base. Lastly be true to yourself which will always reflect in your audience.

LH: As you continue working on your online presence, are there any skills or talents you wish to polish that will help you along the way?
A: I hate to say it again but be more consistent. I do feel like this is where I lack the most in my social media and being stricter on my goals.

LH: Any final thoughts or advice for those that would like to follow in your footsteps?
A: It is not a cake walk so don’t expect for just overnight fame. Stay true to yourself. Everyone attracts the same energy. Always stay humble, not matter where you go and who you meet. If you’re a fan and having a fan moment, go ahead. If someone is having a fan moment with you, don’t be rude. They are the reason why you have gotten where you are. Never be afraid to be helpful and give advice. Remember our youth is our future.

Clothe in Confidence

Interview with Holly Swasko

Currently working from Chicago, IL we had the opportunity to visit with a favorite, Holly from Clothe in Confidence. We were able to share some of the earlier days of Lust Have with Holly in the past, and were more than excited to be able to catch up and learn more about what she has been up to lately.

Lust Have: What inspired you to start blogging?
Holly: I think that there were a lot of things that inspired me to start. One was my love for writing and storytelling and the realization that I could have a voice through it. Along with that, I’ve always had this fascination with makeup and clothing and how something as simple as wearing your favorite jacket or lipstick can totally boost your confidence for the day. It’s the whole idea of how it really goes deeper than just appearance. I realized that I wanted to share that feeling with others especially because I myself had struggled with body image. I figured if there was a way I could share my voice to help others feel better about themselves both inside and out, a blog would be the way to do so.

LH: In one sentence, how would you describe the purpose of your blog to a potential new follower?
H: Clothe In Confidence is all about empowerment, promoting healthy body image, and inspiring others to look and feel their best selves through beauty and fashion.

LH: Who is your number one fashion inspiration and why?
H: I love pulling inspiration from fellow fashion bloggers! Reading about their finds and favorites makes finding new styles so real and accessible. YouTuber and blogger Carly Cristman is one of my favorites. Her style is so simple and chic! She really demonstrates how having simple, key pieces in your wardrobe can open the door to so many new outfit combinations. Great style doesn’t always have to be full of frills and crazy patterns; some of the best outfits can blossom from sleek neutrals and timeless pieces.

LH: What are some of your current style obsessions?
H: Anyone who knows me knows that I love rose gold jewelry. It’s a break from the usual silver and gold finishes and it can add a touch of femininity and glamour to any outfit. I also have really been enjoying sheer, longline kimonos for Spring!

LH: What are your predictions for the next big style trend?
H: They say that history repeats itself, and I’ve been seeing so many hints of 70s style making its way back into fashion with a bit of a modern twist. It was such a carefree period of style. Things like striped ringer details, suedes, and of course bell bottoms and bell-sleeved styles are the big ones but I personally think we’re really going to see even more elements of the decade blossom this Summer.

LH: Tell us about a typical day working on your blog.
H: It’s often really spontaneous. I find it difficult to sit down and force myself come up with a new idea for a post; it just feels a bit artificial that way and I don’t feel as passionate or immersed in the topic. I’m a super visually-inspired person so I’m constantly taking photos! Whether it be of my current outfit, for example, or maybe some accessories that complement each other, if I see something that inspires me I’m more likely to run with the idea and then get to the writing part. From there, once I have the initial shots and writing, I get to editing and preparing posts for promoting on my social media!

LH: What changes have you noticed in your life after starting your blog?
H: I think I came to many realizations both large and small. I realized what a powerful tool social media is and how far your voice can travel when you make the most of it. I learned so much about networking and how to establish an identity for my online presence. Also, I think one of the big changes is my outlook on valuing your passions. I learned that if you have a passion for something, you should run with it. It’s a shame to waste something that you really love in life. There was a point where I took a break from blogging in the past but I ended up coming back to it because it’s what I love. It’s my platform where I can combine everything I love to do and give it greater meaning by sharing it with others.

LH: There are always challenges associated with success. Are there any barriers you have encountered that have or are currently preventing you from hitting any blog milestones?
H: Definitely. One of the things that I struggle with is time management. Balancing the workload of being a student with creating content for my blog is really difficult and it’s hard to find time as well as inspiration when you often can’t give all of your attention to it. However, I’m graduating this year so my aim is to devote my time and put my whole heart into creating new content for my blog in the next few months. I’m looking forward to having that clean slate and really having a chance to grow it.

LH: Speaking of which, what is your next big milestone for your digital diary?
H: I’m currently working on this collaboration with this awesome watch company. More about it will be coming soon to the blog, so keep checking back for that! Another goal I hope to reach down the road is getting to share a book I’m working on. It’s a process, but it’s definitely one of my long-term goals to finish. I always try to tie in a message to each post, but the book serves as a place for more mini-lessons and inspiration that I can’t find a place for on my blog as well as on a longer, lengthier scale.

LH: Who is your favorite photographer for your shoots?
H: For outfit posts, my sister is actually one of my favorites to work with! She’s a portrait artist so compositionally, she’s super talented and is great when working with different angles and lighting. I give her an idea of what I want and she communicates it. For flatlays and product photography, I’m usually the one behind the camera with my studio light. I have fun playing around with the different settings and backgrounds! Also, self-timers and shutter remotes are lifesavers when shooting alone!

LH: What is the toughest lesson you have learned so far from the world of fashion blogging?
H: I’ve learned that it can be so easy to feel pressured into changing your style or changing your blog around just because you think others will like you more because of it. But in the end, the most important thing is staying true to yourself while wearing the clothes and creating the content that truly represents you! I learned that a blog should be a total reflection of yourself, and putting content out there solely for likes takes away from the authenticity.

LH: As you continue working on your online presence, are there any skills or talents you wish to polish that will help you along the way?
H: There’s always more to learn about photography! I got my DSLR a year ago and I’m still discovering new features and settings! Along with that, I’d love to get better at filming. I admire the YouTubers out there that are able to film and edit on a weekly basis! There’s so much that goes into it but I think that venturing further into video would be fun!

LH: Any final thoughts or advice for those that would like to follow in your footsteps?
H: I think that people are often intimidated when putting themselves out there and starting a blog but if you look at as a way for you to share your voice and spread your own unique message and thoughts, it makes it much more meaningful! Just keep working at it, be confident in your abilities, be open to learning new things, and put your heart into whatever you do! One thing I always keep in mind is that you never know who might be listening; someone might just be in need of a message like yours!

Interview with Neha Saripalli

We are fortunate enough to catch an inside glimpse of her blog from author Neha Saripalli of Mrs Saripalli. Neha shared what inspired her to start as well as some great insight into what goes into her personal style!

Lust Have: What inspired you to start blogging?
Neha: Fashion bug bit me very early in age. I think it came from my Mother. She would always dress up stylishly and do the same to me as a kid. Same continues with me, I never lose a chance to show my Fashion side. I love doing it. As soon as I got to know about the blogging concept, I immediately started working on my own blog and my first official blog was out in 2015 Jan ft 5 winters looks.

LH: In one sentence, how would you describe the purpose of your blog to a potential new follower?
N: Follow, if you want to explore the fancy side of a Regular girl.

LH: Who is your number one fashion inspiration and why?
N: These days every other person is writing blogs and everyone is good in their own genre. I adore so many follow bloggers but totally look up to a Mumbai based Fashion Blogger Santushi with blog name “TheStyleEdge”.

LH: What are some of your current style obsessions?
N: I am gypsy by heart and love to wear that look all the time.

LH: What are your predictions for the next big style trend?
N: As per my experience every old style from 70s and 80s has come back. I would want to live in current fashion world. Each style in today’s world is so fashionable. You talk about palazzos, off shoulders, Cold shoulders, Culottes, Trench Coats, layering, suede skirts, and boots. I love every bit of it.

LH: Tell us about a typical day working on your blog.
N: O yeah, it is very interesting and I feel excited for every shoot and make up I do. It starts with a look in my mind followed by makeup, hair, attire, shoot and ends with sharing the look on all social media channel. I should feel satisfied and that would be a happy ending.

LH: What changes have you noticed in your life after starting your blog?
N: Confidence has definitely increased and the feeling of standing out of the crowd. Knowing that people appreciate your work is amazing. Best part comes when people look up to you for a fashion advice.

LH: There are always challenges associated with success. Are there any barriers you have encountered that have or are currently preventing you from hitting any blog milestones?
N: Blogging world is competitive and with so many amazing fashion bloggers already I really have to be one step forward in terms of posting my blogs. I really think the content should be unique and then crowd will enjoy. The biggest challenge here is to stay active on social media. The followers are around the world so posting unique content all the time is the key to success. People tend to forget if your content is not interesting or you are not regular.

LH: Speaking of which, what is your next big milestone for your digital diary?
N: Creating out of the box content is important in this industry. I have some ideas for creating content for YouTube now. Let see how it goes. I am aiming the fitness world and Lifestyle.

LH: Who is your favorite photographer for your shoots?
N: No second thoughts but Mr. Husband. The best part is that I don’t need to request, I demand {giggles}. Just cook something of his choice and he is the happiest man and the best photographer.

LH: What is the toughest lesson you have learned so far from the world of fashion blogging?
N: Stay hungry is what I have learned so far. Keep creating content and aim what you like the most. Consistency is another lesson so that followers will believe you and stay connected.

LH: As you continue working on your online presence, are there any skills or talents you wish to polish that will help you along the way?
N: O yes, of course! I am not perfect. I am still learning. There is always a new day and I get to learn something new each day. I want to create video content and I am working on it currently.

LH: Any final thoughts or advice for those that would like to follow in your footsteps?
N: Fashion world is creative. You might feel dull for not having enough followers; people may not like your content but be consistent and keep creating exceptional content. Learn from follow bloggers and work on your shortcomings. Never compare but keep getting inspired from this world.

Model and Maker

Interview with Amy Friel

Based in Boston, we are taking a sneak peak at the launch of Model and Maker by creator Amy Friel. Amy is the creator of The Tall Teacher and is preparing to re-brand her online presence. We are excited to watch the process, but first a few thoughts from the creator.

Lust Have: What inspired you to start blogging?
Amy: I started my blog at the end of college when I was student teaching (my major was Art Education). I had a hard time finding work looks that I liked, they were too conservative and didn't fit my aesthetic, so I decided to experiment and post about my own style.

LH: In one sentence, how would you describe the purpose of your blog to a potential new follower?
A: The purpose of my blog is to provide creative style inspiration that encourages my followers to get out of their comfort zone and try something new.

LH: Who is your number one fashion inspiration and why?
A: This is tough, and to be honest I'm inspired by everything. I lived in New York and worked in Soho this summer and was infatuated by the street style there. The way people dress in each city is so unique to the city and their day to day lives. Every person dresses true to who they are, and that really inspires me.

LH: What are some of your current style obsessions?
A: **If Style Obsession is for People: My current style obsessions are Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid. I love their relaxed, but edgy off duty model style. When it comes to style, I love to look at taller women's street style, and as model's they're style is documented a lot!
**If Style Obsession is for Clothing: My current and constant style obsessions are denim and leather. I feel like I'm always in one of the two. I am in love with how brands are reinventing denim!

LH: What are your predictions for the next big style trend?
A: This is a great question! I just read this article in Harpers Bazaar where Sabrina Alberello from Aya Muse said, "Fashion moves so fast that we have reached a point where everything is a trend." I totally agree with this. I think people are dressing more to express their personal style than keeping up with trends. My near and dear style obsessions are, and always will be denim and leather, they're so versatile and I find myself always wearing them.

LH: Tell us about a typical day working on your blog.
A: My routine varies, and revolves around what I feel like working on that day. I typically work with the most recent photos I've taken, or events that I have attended, and write about them. But, if I'm lucky I usually have a shoot lined up. I try to shoot as much as possible, so my day usually revolves around photography. I start by planning looks and the themes for future shoots (I also do creative directing and styling). Then, if I'm shooting that day, I pack all of the looks and meet up with a photographer. I just did a shoot the other evening and it turned out really cool! We played with dramatic lighting and a dark background...its coming to the blog soon.

LH: What changes have you noticed in your life after starting your blog?
A: Blogging has definitely brought out some traits, and refined others. It has made me more organized, better at time management, encouraged me to get out of my comfort zone, and brought out the inner go-getter in me. As a blogger, it's really important to be passionate about what you do and that means going the extra mile. It's also important to meet people, be consistent with posts and have interesting content. I try to connect and network with others as much as possible. It can be intimidating going to events alone, but every time I go, I always have a blast!

LH: There are always challenges associated with success. Are there any barriers you have encountered that have or are currently preventing you from hitting any blog milestones?
A: I think that I am my biggest barrier. As a blogger and user of social media, I struggle with comparing myself to others, and getting bogged down with that. I know a lot of other bloggers struggle with this too.  But I remind myself of this quote by Theodore Roosevelt, "Comparison is the thief of joy". It's one of my favorite quotes and reminds me to focus on myself and my potential.

LH: Speaking of which, what is your next big milestone for your digital diary?
A: My next milestone is actually launching my new blog. The concept is much more true to who I am, and reflects my experiences. I have a few exciting projects coming up too!

LH: Who is your favorite photographer for your shoots?
A: I actually love working with all different creatives because each person brings their own personality and perspective to a shoot. But looking back, I really loved working with Katie Mack Photography because I felt like her and I were always on the same page. It doesn't hurt that we also went to college together and were in the same photography class!

LH: What is the toughest lesson you have learned so far from the world of fashion blogging?
A: Ooh, this is a good one. I think the toughest lesson I've learned is that you need to give blogging your all and always make time for it. It's like a job, and the work you put in over time correlates to the results that you will get.

LH: Any final thoughts or advice for those that would like to follow in your footsteps?
A: I think that if you're passionate about it, and really want to do it, go for it! But before you launch your blog, make sure that you have a unique concept that excites you. If you're willing to give it your all and be patient, it will pay off.
