Interview with Katie Schuppler
We had the pleasure of getting better acquainted with Katie from KS Style Consulting. Katie currently runs a style consultation service Fashion Styling Chicago as well as maintaining her blog, Fashion Speak. She has shared a little on how she got her start as well as some of the everyday hurdles she experiences along the way!
Lust Have: What inspired you to start blogging?
Katie: I was working in fashion while going to school for fashion and have always loved to write! I started to write my personal blog for the store I worked at in Milwaukee, Fred Boutique and it grew even more when I moved to Chicago
LH: In one sentence, how would you describe the purpose of your blog to a potential new follower?
K: I want Fashion Speak to be a place you can come to get fun and sometimes edgy style tips, news about style and fashion events in Chicago, and that it motivates my readers to step up their style game!
LH: Who is your number one fashion inspiration?
K: Rachel Zoe
LH: What are some of your current style obsessions?
K: I love the flatform shoes that are sticking around from last year and are coming back for spring. And for the remainder of winter I am loving anything faux fur!
LH: What are your predictions for the next big style trend?
K: I think bell sleeves for spring are going to be major and since I love 1970’s style the most I am pretty excited.
LH: Tell us about a typical day working on your blog.
K: I usually work on my blog first thing in the morning (3-4 days a week), then we do shoots usually every Saturday or Sunday afternoon, and I will usually go add and edit photos again before bed at night.
LH: What changes have you noticed in your life after starting your blog?
K: I have tried a lot of new things and met so many amazing, supportive people along the way. It’s really refreshing to meet so many people (mainly women) that are looking to help each other and collaborate.
LH: Who is your favorite photographer for your shoots?
K: Britt Taylor of Britt Taylor Photography.
LH: What is your next big milestone for your digital diary?
K: I would like to do more videos both on my blog and my business website. It’s a great way to show your audience your personality a little better.
LH: What is the toughest lesson you have learned so far from the world of fashion blogging?
K: Making sure to take the time and make the time! Since my full time business is KS Style Consulting where I help style clients on a daily basis with their wardrobes, it can be hard especially during the super busy times to fit in shoots and all that goes into posting on social media and the blog.
